Interior vs. Exterior Replacement Flaps – Please Read Before Ordering

Hale interior and exterior replacement flaps are different and are not interchangeable.

Although the interior and exterior flaps may be the same size, the strikes and weather stripping are positioned differently so they properly align with the magnets in the pet door frame.

Before ordering, please determine whether you need:

- An interior replacement flap

- An exterior replacement flap

- Both replacement flaps

Please refer to the flap placement graphic and additional product information to determine which replacement flap you need before placing your order.

How to Choose the Correct Hale Pet Door Replacement Flap Size

For the most accurate sizing, measure your existing Hale Pet Door frame rather than your old flap.

Measure the outside of the pet door frame TIP TO TIP, both horizontally and vertically.

Use those measurements with the conversion chart to determine your pet door's passage opening size. Then select the corresponding Hale Pet Door size from the options above.

Important: The tip-to-tip frame measurement and passage opening measurement are not the actual flap dimensions.

We strongly recommend measuring the pet door frame instead of an old or worn flap when determining the correct replacement size.

Important Custom-Size Replacement Flap Information

CUSTOM-SIZE FLAP-ONLY REPLACEMENTS ARE NOT AVAILABLE.

Each Hale replacement flap is handmade. Because the exact placement of the strikes can vary, Hale cannot guarantee that the strikes on a newly manufactured custom-size flap will align correctly with the magnets in an existing pet door frame.

If you have a custom-size Hale Pet Door and need replacement flaps, please order the complete replacement flap kitrather than a flap-only replacement.

Replacement Flap Measuring & Installation Information

Your new Hale replacement flap includes a metal top bar riveted to the flap for additional strength and stability.

Because each flap is individually made, the new rivets may not be positioned in exactly the same locations as the rivets on your original flap. This does not mean you received the wrong replacement flap.

Important Installation Warning

DO NOT screw through the metal rivets during installation.

Screwing through a rivet can weaken the replacement flap and may cause premature failure.

If a rivet is positioned where an original screw hole was located, simply drill a new screw hole through the flap and inside portion of the pet door frame in a nearby location.

Please note: Our flaps are designed for each model individually and the interior and exterior flaps are different. While they are the same size, the strikes and weather stripping are arranged in different locations to match up with the magnets in the door frame. Please make sure whether you need an interior flap, exterior flap, or both flaps before ordering. CUSTOM SIZE FLAP ONLY NOT AVAILABLE.  Because each of our flaps is handmade, we cannot guarantee the exact placement of the strikes on the flaps when making custom size flaps.  Therefore, we do not offer custom size flap only replacements as the strikes on the new flaps may not line up with the existing magnets.  For custom size replacement flaps, please order our full replacement flap kit instead.

MEASURING AND INSTALLATION NOTE: As shown in the gallery photos above your replacement flap will have a metal top bar riveted to it for strength and stability.  Each flap is hand created and we cannot guarantee that these rivets will be in the exact place as your original rivets.  This does not mean you have an incorrect size of flap.  DO NOT screw through these rivets during installation as that will weaken the flap and cause it to fail.  Simply drill a new screw hole through your flap and the inside of the pet door frame in a new location near the original hole.

If you aren’t sure of your Hale Pet Door size, you can measure the pet door frame.  This is the outside TIP TO TIP measurement both horizontally and vertically.  After measuring, you can find the correct size pet door using the following conversion table.  After converting your tip to tip measurement to the passage opening, choose the correct size pet door from the dropdown above. (PLEASE NOTE: Neither of these measurements is the actual flap size. We recommend measuring your pet door frame and not your old flap to confirm the size before ordering replacements.)
